Woman in field looking in mirror

Have you seen the movie Spanglish? There's a scene that left an impact on me. The mom buys her 13ish-year-old daughter a set of brand-new, gorgeous clothes—clothes that should’ve been a sweet gift, but they’re two sizes too small. The mom’s intention? To “encourage” her daughter to lose weight. But what happens next? The daughter’s heart breaks. She feels how anyone would— hurt, disappointment, the sting of not being good enough as she is. It’s a gut punch. The next day, the loveable housekeeper, with her limited English, comes in and gently nudges the daughter to try on those clothes again. The daughter, still in that raw place of sadness, tries to explain they don’t fit. But the housekeeper becomes insistent. Very reluctantly, the daughter puts the clothes on again—and, in an almost magical moment, they fit perfectly. The housekeeper had secretly taken them home and altered them. The daughter’s face lights up—she feels a surge of joy, relief, and gratitude. It’s a beautiful full circle moment of excitement, disappointment, and back to excitement.

How many times do we find ourselves caught in that loop of negative self-talk or hear unkind comments from others, whether directly or indirectly? It's so easy to slip into that space where we call ourselves names, criticize our bodies, or let others' words define us. But here's the thing—those thoughts and words can hit deep, feeding into fears and insecurities we didn’t even know we had. It’s like that little voice in your head telling you you’re not enough, or that you have to be something different to be worthy of love and acceptance. But imagine if, instead of letting those thoughts pull you down, you could flip the script. What if your mindset could be like that housekeeper—coming in with kindness, patience, and the tools to help you see yourself in a new light? Because here’s the magic: when you start changing your habits, your mindset begins to shift too. It's like when you decide to smile, even when you're feeling low. You’re not faking it—you’re creating space for your brain to rewire itself toward something positive. So, every step you take to nurture your body and your health isn’t just about what you see in the mirror—it’s about changing the way you see yourself. You’re worthy, exactly as you are. Keep showing up for yourself, even on the days when it's hard. That's how transformation begins.

This quote stands out to me: you’re creating space for your brain to rewire itself toward something positive. I so resonate with this because it's about intention. I can intentionally set myself, and especially my thinking, up for success by creating that space for rewiring. Excellent!!
